Below you will find the answers to these questions...

What do you believe?
We believe that the Bible is God's totally true Word. We believe that God's Son, Jesus Christ, lived a perfect life, died for sinners and rose again from the dead. We believe that the Holy Spirit of God lives in those who receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. We believe that everyone who is "born again" through faith in Jesus is part of God's family, the Body of Christ, the Church. For more information, see The Evangelical Free Church of America's Statement of Faith. You can also view our Church Constitution.

Where are you located?
Glenview Evangelical Free Church is located at the corner of Shermer Road and Golf Road in Glenview, Illinois.  (detailed directions)

What does Glenview Evangelical Free Church mean?
Glenview refers to the fact that our church is located in Glenview, Illinois. Evangelical Free is the affiliation that we are a part of, a group of like-minded churches. Evangelical refers to our primary belief in the Bible as God's Word and the Good News of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Free refers to our form of government. We are a congregational church, and we make our decisions here, at the local level. We are also in the ministry of setting people free through the love of Jesus Christ!

Why Evangelical?
The term Evangelical stems from the Biblical word for gospel. As Evangelicals we hold to the original meaning of the term and underscore 5 primary principles, often referred to as the "solas" of our faith.
     1. Sola Fide - We are saved by faith alone.
     2. Sola Gratia - Salvation in offered to man by grace alone and not by works of
         any measure.
     3. Sola Cristo - Salvation is provided through the atoning and substitutionary
death of Christ alone. No other source or person can provide salvation and
         forgiveness of sin.
     4. Sola Scriptura - The Holy Bible is our sole foundation and source of truth, and
divine revelation, and fully trustworthy for faith and practice.
     5. Sola Deo Gloria - All of creation is intended for the glory of God alone, including
our salvation and daily life in Christ.

How big is GlenviewEFC?
We have an average Sunday morning worship attendance of 350. We have two services in English at 8:15 and 11:00 am and the Japanese Languange Congregation meets at 11:00 am.

What is the history of GlenviewEFC?
Through the vision of two families, Rev. and Mrs. Roger Anderson and Mr. And Mrs. Wm. Anderson, a Sunday school was started in October of 1952.

... Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew18:20

Field houses and schools became “churches” during the early years of the work. In January 1954, we became unofficially known as the Glenview Evangelical Free Church. A Trinity student, Rev. Kenneth Meyer, became the first pastor, serving from July 1954, to April 1961. Thirty-seven members incorporated as the new church, September, 1955. The time for a permanent home had come. A Building Committee was formed.

Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God ...  1 Chron. 22:19

On a bright July Sunday, 1956, the first spade of dirt was turned. Faith prevailed. Construction began a month later, even though final confirmation of the loan was not received.

He will not fail you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished. 1 Chron. 28:20

On the last Sunday of January, 1957, the congregation stood in the new house of worship and joyfully dedicated it to the Lord.

... and the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. 1 Chron. 7:2

The church grew on. The members sacrificed. Thirteen missionaries were partially supported by the church including Roger Anderson, Hong Kong, and Roger and Sally Eales. A new parsonage was occupied in February 1959. After the departure of Pastor Meyer to Cristal, Minnesota, Rev. Robert Gustafson accepted the ministry in October 1961.

The mortgage was burned Thanksgiving Day, 1964. A Building Committee was appointed May 1965. Plans were proposed and ground was broken July 17, 1966, for the new edifice. February 5, 1967 (ten years after the first building was occupied), we moved into the new sanctuary. Today we dedicate the completed edifice to God's glory and accept a new challenge to greater service.

... they bowed down ... and worshipped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, 'For He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.'   II Chron. 7:3

Why should I fill out the Friendship Folder in the pew rack?
These sheets help us get to know who you are and serve as a means of communication. It is our desire to respond to your requests made on these cards. We will send you a letter in the mail, welcoming you to our congregation. If you ask for prayer, our pastoral leadership prays for you. If you ask for information, your request is passed on to our receptionist, who will send you some brochures that will answer your questions. If you would like to meet with a staff member, your request will be passed on to them. The cards are a vital means of communication between the church office and you, our guest! Please let us know how we may assist you.

What am I expected to put in the offering?
Nothing! We honestly don't want visitors to give out of a sense of obligation. Our members and regular attendees are responsible to meet the financial needs of the church. We don't pressure people to give. We let God lead people who feel they are part of the church family to give according to His will for them.
